How Much to Charge for Aeration and Dethatching
How Much to Charge for Core Aeration:
For aerating a lawn, the price I charge is the price of the mow times 3. For example, a lawn that I charge $45 to mow I will charge $135 to aerate. See How Much to Charge for Lawn Mowing.
Keep in mind this equipment is very expensive to purchase (around $2000) and isn’t worth buying in my opinion right away since you only use it a couple days per year. Expect to pay around $100 for a one day rental. So try to line up as many accounts in a day as you can. I can usually get about 5 jobs done in a day, but this is very tiring work.
How Much to Charge for Dethatching:
Dethatching a lawn takes a little longer than the aeration since you need to clean up your mess afterwards.
Therefore, depending on the severity of the thatch, I would charge 3x the price of the mow, and estimate how long it would take me to remove the dead thatch at the end of the job.
This can add a half hour up to about 3 hours per job. Aim high to be safe.
