Q: Pricing a lawn: Do you charge 30 dollars for small (<6000 sq ft) and 40 for a medium (6-10k sq ft)? Im charging 29 for a small and 39 for a medium. Am I pricing correctly? When you advertise, do you ever door knock? Or do you just put flyers on each door? – Kyle
A: It depends on the area. If it is just you working, it is your own time so it would be difficult to lose money since labor is the biggest expense. I aim for about $60/man/hour for the time that we are on the property. This price the market can support in my area. The closer your lawns are together, the more you will make per hour as you do not get paid for driving time. But to answer your question, for a lawn less than 6000 square feet we would generally charge about $30-35, a lawn 6-10k square feet we would charge in the range of $40-$60.
Regarding advertising, I personally do not door knock because I hate it and I don’t need to. But door knocking is a good low cost way of getting started and is effective. If you are personable this may be more effective than flyers for you because the customer gets to meet you not just see your flyer.
