Advertising in Local Newspapers and Directories

Advertising in Local Newspapers:

Newspaper ads have gotten me a few calls in past seasons.  However, costing around $200 for the five week long ad, it is a steep price to pay considering many of the leads I got were not good quality.  Many of the calls I received were not from people looking for steady service but a one time service type of deal, which I don’t like to get into.

I have tried switching around the timing of the newspaper ads as well as the content. However I finally decided that this was not the best way to get leads.

If money is not an issue and you are trying to get some extra leads, then the newspaper could be worth a shot. Note that these were only my observations, the results could be better in your area.

Below is an example of the newspaper ad I put in a few years ago (I have since dramatically improved my image):

Advertising in Directories:

In addition, listing in directories such as the Yellow Pages or Super pages are a possibility.

I have not opted to take this route in the past as you have no choice but list the advertisement all year, even if you only work half the year.

We list it for our painting business, and have found that the Super Pages offer a better rate than the Yellow Pages.
